GPS Lightning Protection |
It is not possible to avoid overvoltages caused
directly by lightning, but a device can be protected
against the destructive effects. It is therefore
necessary to short-circuit all the lines with overvoltage
and reduce it as quickly as possible. Once the
disturbance is reduced again the device is to return to
its original specifications.
The lightning protection therefore consists of different components which, due to the high frequency and small signal power, are arranged in "Strip-line" technique. Due to fast absorber diodes with a response time of < 1 nsec and a discharge current 10 kA the potential difference between antenna core and zero are kept at a constant ± 6 V. The subsequent double chamber gas arrester short-circuits the lines to the earthing point when lit.
This combination guarantees the potential separation of the antenna circuit from the other electronics in an undisturbed state.
Test certificate overvoltage and EMI-protection by SIEMENS company.
